Divine Mercy Sunday!
In her Diary, St. Faustina recorded this most complete, concise description:
"I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and a shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. ... The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened... It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy".
The Jefferson Choral Society invites all to an Easter Concert,
"Jesus, Son of our Father"
on Sunday, April 30th at 4pm at the Academy.
The concert tells the story of Jesus' life based upon the Gospel of John.

Grave Matters
With springtime arriving, the St Joseph of Arimathea Cemetery Ministry is busy cleaning and sprucing up sections of the cemetery grounds.
Along the Dinwiddie Street side, Virginia Garden has added a dozen Laurel plants to meet up with and complete a previous line of these bushes. The goal is to have many more plants to border the fence line. We are also in the process of cleaning the overgrown areas of the fence.
Thank you Art and Phillip Helbling for your efforts in keeping our cemetery maintained and beautiful.
Another activity includes Richard Zechini, helper and John Bagwell removing old trees along the fence line in a continuation of the clean up process.
Also, note John Bagwell assists Jim Naples in "mapping" a section of the cemetery for a future gravesite. This is an ongoing process with more burials being a reality.
God Bless all of the St Joseph Ministry volunteers who continue to assist with the cemetery ministry.
The 2nd Annual “Fairways to Heaven” Golf Tournament is almost here!
Come participate on Friday afternoon, May 12th with fellow parishioners in a fun outing at London Downs Golf Course. It’s time to gather your foursome and get your entry form in to the parish!

PASTORAL CARE MINISTRY’S SPRING PROGRAM
"What to know before you go….to Eternal Life”
Preparation is key and knowing in advance what to expect when a loved one passes away can ease the planning process.
Join fellow parishioners on Saturday May 13, 2:00 – 3:00pm at Holy Cross Church for our spring educational program. Jim Naples, Marge Chamberlin and Patrick Hubble will present important information regarding use of the Holy Cross Cemetery, planning a funeral mass and what to know when choosing a funeral home.
Refreshments will be provided.

Faith Formation
Hindu priest to present two lectures at the University of Lynchburg
Brahmachari Sharan, who directs Hindu life at Georgetown University, will present the University of Lynchburg’s 2023 Turner-Warren and Shumate lectures.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Sharan’s Turner-Warren Lecture on Life and Faith — “Living with Faith: A Hindu Among the Jesuits” — will take place at 4 p.m. April 23 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 3109 Rivermont Ave. in Lynchburg. Sharan will discuss life as a Hindu spiritual leader in a Jesuit environment and what made him decide to take on that role.
His Jennie Cutler Shumate Lecture — “The Spirituality of Difference: Dharmic Perspectives on University Life” — will be presented at 7 p.m. April 24 in Snidow Chapel on campus. In this talk, Sharan will highlight the importance of interfaith work in a university setting.
Sharan is the only Hindu priest serving as a chaplain at a university, as reported in a 2016 Washington Post story. Born in Britain, he trained as a priest at ashrams in India, completed his doctorate in Sanskrit at the University of Edinburgh, and later taught at universities in Wales and London.
The Bible and Prayer unveils the true nature of prayer: what it is, how it works, and the bountiful blessings available to those who walk the path of intimacy with God. It looks at the prayer lives of the towering figures of salvation history in both the Old and New Testaments showing the different forms our communication with God can take.
It also examines the ins and outs of the three types or modes of prayer every Catholic is called to engage in: vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplation.
Tuesdays at 10am and 6:30pm in the Commons beginning April 18 for 5 weeks
Thursdays at 10am in the Commons beginning April 20th for 11 weeks
First Corinthians: The Church and the Christian Community explores the key elements of the gospel message that Paul introduced to a new and growing Church. Presenter Tim Gray examines Paul’s advice for living an authentic Christian life in a pagan culture as well as his teachings about the nature of grace, the Church as the body of Christ, and the most powerful gift of all—the Eucharist.

The Ladies of Charity are sponsoring a Baby Shower to benefit the Blue Ridge Preganacy Center.
Please donate the following new items found on the list below.
Are you interested in being on a mentor team to journey alongside families during their pregnancy? To help create a bridge from the Blue Ridge Pregnacy Center (BRPC) to a Christian community? To build relationships with patients beynd their time at the BRPC? To share the love of Christ in action and in word??
The committment is 6 weeks, once a week to attend a pregancy & Life Skills Class (PLS) to end on week six with a baby shower for the women. Holy Coss would like to participate starting in September and we need your help! Please let Kaky Bowden know if you are interested at kbowden@holycrosslynchburg.org. We will meet to discuss and plan once volunteers are secured.

Holy Cross to host a Red Cross Blood Drive!
When: Thursday, June 1st from 1pm - 6pm
Where: At Holy Cross in the Commons
Our blood drive is important to patients in need. From a blood supply standpoint: The Red Cross - needs to collect more than 13,000 blood donations and more than 2,500 platelet donations each day. The blood collected by the Red Cross helps millions of patients in over -2,500 hospitals and other facilities across the country. 84 percent of blood donations are given at blood drives - hosted by generous sponsoring organizations like ours.
Holy Cross is proud to hold this blood drive in partnership with the Red Cross, giving us all an opportunity to make a difference. Our blood is needed!!

2021 Jesse Tree Ministry
Elves Delivered! This past week Jesse Tree gifts, food, and even stockings for the younger children, were distributed to 77 households in our area. Families came from our parish community, as well as those referred to us by Interfaith Outreach Association, Lynchburg Social Services, Miriam’s House and McGurk House.
Thanks: Many thanks to all those who made the 2021 Jesse Tree Ministry a success!
We will resume distributing the monthly bags in the Commons the first weekend in February.
