Sunday's Gospel is the beginning of four chapters of John known as the "Last Discourse". John puts it at the Last Supper after the washing of the apostles' feet. It is Jesus speaking as the Son of the Father and affirming his identity and mission.
Jesus came not to change God's mind about us but our minds about God. Jesus assures us that when we know and follow him, he is the way that leads us to the Father and into eternal life with Him. Philip asks to see the Father and Jesus replies, "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father." When we look at Jesus in the Gospels, we see His self-sacrificing love, compassion and healing forgiveness. When we look at Jesus on the cross, we see God the Father perfectly revealed as Forgiving Love. Alleluia!
