Growing up, my siblings and I were always amazed by my mom's hearing. We titled this skill, "Mom Hearing," as she could always hear better than us.

If you think about it, our universal Mother, Mary, has the strongest "Mom Hearing". In fact, she always hears us when we ask for her prayers.

But why do Catholics pray to Mary? Mary is our Mother. Jesus told the disciple (i.e., us) this on the cross. Additionally, she was the closest human being to Christ ever. Similar to how we ask others to pray for us, we often ask Mary, our Mother, to intercede for us.

Okay, so Mary is our Mother. What does that mean? It means we all have a spiritual mom. She listens and prays for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. The strongest, holiest, and kindest woman to ever walk this earth, we are unbelievably fortunate to call Mary, "Mom" for the rest of our lives.

Mary, pray for me that I may be brought ever so closer to the holiness of your Son, Jesus. O gentle Mother, pray that I, like you, me be patient and courageous with God's plan for me. Pray that I may live out your Son's teachings and continue to be faithful in his call to sainthood and discipleship. O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary. Pray for me that I may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Parking at Saint Tom's

Purdue has begun monitoring/enforcing the STA permit gravel spots; every vehicle parked in the STA gravel spots MUST display a new STA parking pass. Purdue will be issuing warning tickets for this week, but then after:

No STA permit = $35 ticket

Expired STA permit = $50 ticket.

If the STA permit appears altered or tampered with, it is potentially a $150 ticket PLUS boot/wheel lock.

Join MARK Tutoring!!

St. Tom’s organizes groups of Purdue students to tutor and mentor at Lafayette Urban Ministry’s after school program. As a mentor, you help the children with their homework or just join them in recreation time. The goal of this mentoring program is to serve as good role models for the youth by encouraging them to take their studies seriously and to make a positive difference in their lives. The commitment level is flexible around your schedule but is typically once a week for 1-2hrs in the afternoon. Rides will be provided if needed. St. Dymphna Mental Health Resource Area Open!

Come visit the St. Dymphna Mental Health Resource Area right outside the Boiler Catholics Office. College is a stressful time for many people. At the mental health resource area, we have puzzles and mindfulness activities for anyone to use! If you are struggling, do not hesitate to reach out to one of us officers or your friends. We are all here for you! You matter, never forget that.

New Purdue Grads: Diocese of Lafayette Job Openings

The Diocese of Lafayette is seeking candidates for entry-level positions within the new Greater Lafayette Central Administration Office (GLCAO) as bookkeepers and a position serving as the communications coordinator for the St. Mary’s and St. Ann’s pastorate. GLCAO bookkeeper positions require an accounting degree. For more information, contact David Shelby, director of the GLCAO, at (765) 366-2525.

The communications coordinator position requires a college degree in editing or written communication. Qualified candidates will be detailed oriented, enjoy working with parishioners, school families, and children, possess strong organizational and communications skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and understand and will abide by the teachings of the Catholic Church. St. Toms was voted the #1 place to study by the Purdue Exponent. We have plenty of private classrooms if you want somewhere quite to study. You can also study in Newman Hall and socialize with others!

Please, come and visit us officers during our office hours throughout the week, and we can help you get involved! We all desire community, and Sawyer (President), Geoff (Vice President), Justine (Treasurer), and Jonah (Secretary) all want to help YOU find it!

Our office is located downstairs off of Newman Hall in the room next to the bathrooms! You can just stop by on the fly during our office hours, or you can email us at officers@boilercatholics.org to let us know you're coming.
