Proclaiming God’s Greatness
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. (Lk 1:46-47)
Today is the Feast of the Visitation. We are encouraged to ponder the extraordinary love God has shown us through the miracle and mystery of the Incarnation. God, himself, took on flesh to restore our relationship with himself and that we might have eternal life in heaven. It is, frankly, more than we can fully comprehend–the mystery of the Incarnation. Yet, we believe it is true, and the Magnificat, the prayer of Mary that we heard in today's Gospel, can help us convey our own sense of wonder and gratitude at the Incarnation and all that God has done for us.
Using this prayer as our model, let our souls proclaim the greatness of the Lord. Let our spirits rejoice in God, our Savior, for he has looked on our weakness and has blessed us. He has done great things for each of us, and holy, indeed, is His name. He continues to shower us with his mercy. Let us acknowledge that God lifts up the humble and brings low those who are too arrogant or self-satisfied to rely on him. Does my day to day life reflect the greatness of the Lord? Try to identify an event or a moment of your life when it is clear that God has intervened, let us imagine ourselves with Mary and Elizabeth and add our voices to theirs in giving praise to God, who has shown such love for us.
O Blessed Mother Mary, I love you and consecrate my life to You, trusting in your motherly care and mediation. Help me, dear Mother, to be open to all that you desire to bring to me from your Son, Jesus. Hail Mary full of grace…
Be one and be holy in Christ,
