Annual Mission Appeal in our Parish! This weekend, Fr. Thomas Rayar, a native of India and serving as the pastor in Minnesota, will be speaking at all the Masses, to make an appeal for the mission in the Diocese of Ootacamund, India.
This diocese was established in 1955 in the mountainous area of Tamil Nadu State in India by Pope Pius XII. It has a Catholic population of c.85,000 which would be 5% of the total population. About 150 priests and 415 religious serve in about 70 parishes and 22 high schools of this Diocese. About two third of the faithful of the diocese are mostly daily wage laborers and farmers.
Apart from people with different cultures, the diocese is endowed with different aboriginal tribes both in Nilgiris and Erode districts. These tribal people do not have opportunities for education. More than 38% of the population is illiterate. As there are no proper roads to the hilly tribal villages, we have established boarding schools in the small towns where the tribal children could have an education. The fund will specifically be spent for the room and board, and educational expenses of these poor children.
We welcome Fr. Rayar to our parish, and may God bless you for your sacrificial support to the mission and your prayers for the evangelization of our global Church! We will have a donation basket in front of the baptismal font in the church. Thank you for your generosity!
Mass Intentions. Beginning Monday, June 5, the cost for purchasing a Mass Intention will be $12. This additional fee will help with the processing charges and will allow us to send a Mass card on behalf of the purchaser.
