A Note from Fr. Ed:

We have arrived at the first weekend of June (and the first weekend of Ordinary Time following the Easter Season).

Many graduation ceremonies have already occurred over the last several weeks, with the rest to come over the next couple of weeks. Congratulations, graduates!

Although the official beginning of summer is still several weeks away, schools either have begun their summer breaks or will do so over the next couple of weeks. So for all intents and purposes, summer is here!

I hope that all of you students will get some rest and have some fun this summer. I do not want your brains to turn to mush this summer, so please do whatever summer assignments your school has given you, as well as some other intellectual activity – reading, video games that exercise your brain in some way, etc. But definitely also get some rest and have some fun. You need it!

That goes for the rest of us as well. I hope that all of us have plans for some rest and fun this summer. We need it!

A reminder, though, that although summer vacations are important and wonderful, we should never take a vacation from God. God never takes a vacation from us – thanks be to God – so we should never take a vacation from him. Unless you are climbing Mount Everest or something like that, there will almost certainly be a Catholic church wherever you go this summer. So especially on Sunday, go to church! Going to church on Sunday is essential to nurturing our relationship with God and one another. And going to church on vacation is a great way to meet locals and get a sense of the local community wherever we are.

So let us all take a deep breath and settle into a restful and fun summer, with God a part of every minute and helping to make it so.

Hemos llegado al primer fin de semana de junio (y al primer fin de semana del Tiempo Ordinario que sigue al Tiempo Pascual).

Ya se han realizado muchas ceremonias de graduación en las últimas semanas, y el resto se llevará a cabo en las próximas dos semanas. ¡Felicidades, graduados!

Aunque todavía faltan varias semanas para el comienzo oficial del verano, las escuelas han comenzado sus vacaciones de verano o lo harán durante las próximas dos semanas. Entonces, para todos los efectos, ¡el verano está aquí!

Espero que todos ustedes, estudiantes, descansen y se diviertan este verano. Sin embargo, un recordatorio de que, aunque las vacaciones de verano son importantes y maravillosas, nunca debemos tomar unas vacaciones de Dios. Dios nunca se toma vacaciones de nosotros, gracias a Dios, por lo que nunca debemos tomar vacaciones de él. A menos que esté escalando el Monte Everest o algo así, es casi seguro que habrá una iglesia católica donde quiera que vaya este verano. ¡Así que especialmente el domingo, ve a la iglesia! Ir a la iglesia el domingo es esencial para nutrir nuestra relación con Dios y con los demás. The next Knights of Columbus Food Drive will be on Saturday, June 3rd from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. & Sunday, June 4th from 6:00 - 11:30 a.m. Items collected will be distributed to those locally in need. What is Life Teen? Life Teen is a Catholic high school youth ministry program. It provides a safe fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Life Teen resources speak to the physical, psychological, cognitive, relational, and spiritual maturation of high school youth. Life Teen resources make it easier for youth ministers to plan out their semesters of Life Night, retreats, and to train a team of adults, the Core Team, to assist them in the ministry. Annual Priests’ Retreat Week of June 5-9

The priests of the Diocese of Orange will be on retreat the week of June 5-9. In our parish, there will be no 8 am Mass, Monday through Friday, June 5-9. Contact the Parish Office for emergency sick calls. Priests from a neighboring parish will be responding to those calls. Please keep our priests in your prayers that they may return refreshed and renewed in body, mind and spirit.

First Mass of Thanksgiving of Soon-to-Be Father David Moreno, Sunday, June 11, 2023, 10 am

Deacon David Moreno will become Father David Moreno on June 10, and newly-ordained Father David will celebrate his First Mass of Thanksgiving the next day, Sunday, June 11, 2023, 10 am, here at OLG. The Mass will be bilingual and a great honor and privilege for our parish as Father David presides at Mass for the very first time. A reception will follow in Jason’s Plaza. All are invited to participate, support Father David and thank God for Father David’s priesthood.

Now that April's Rosary Rally is completed, we can look forward to our next one in May; the month of our Blessed Mother Mary.

It will be held in front of our church on May 20, 2023.

With all of the darkness happening in the world, this is a perfect month to offer our prayers and ourselves to our Blessed Mother as a sign of our devotion to Her and Her Son. If you haven't come to one of our Rallies before, this again is the perfect month to attend one to honor and pray to Our Lady. We always hold these on the third Saturday of every month. Sometimes we may be praying in front of the fountain of our Lord Jesus and His Sacred Heart if there are baptisms, weddings or other events happening in the church. Feel free to bring a chair if needed. I do try to have at least two spare chairs for those unable to bring one.

Feel free to bring family and friends. The more people are praying the Rosary to Our Mother, the more this darkness will be rolled back. We hope to see many more people coming to honor our Blessed Mother Mary on Her month. Many thanks go out to all who support us in this important ministry.

Si no ha venido a uno de nuestros Rallies antes, este es nuevamente el mes perfecto para asistir a uno para honrar y orar a Nuestra Señora. Siempre los celebramos el tercer sábado de cada mes. A veces podemos estar orando frente a la fuente de nuestro Señor Jesús y Su Sagrado Corazón si hay bautizos, bodas u otros eventos en la iglesia. Siéntase libre de traer una silla si es necesario. Trato de tener al menos dos sillas de repuesto para aquellos que no pueden traer una.

This coming October 20 and 21, in response to the Bishops’ call for a National Eucharistic Revival, we will set out to host our own Eucharistic Congress. This event will invite people from all walks of life to gather in anticipation of the nearness of God. Through powerful speakers, transformative prayer and Sacramental celebrations, we will experience the life that flows from His existence, meeting Him in the reality of His Presence.
