If you are a Baptized Catholic in need of completing your sacraments of Initiation, or a non-Catholic seeking to learn more about our faith, then you are the PERFECT CANDIDATE for the OCIA Program!
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults is a program that prepares adults for one or more of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Holy Communion, and/or Confirmation through study of our core beliefs and practices. There is no charge to attend and study can be completed at home or in class. YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US! Fathers' Day Cards. Honor or remember your father on Father’s Day, June 18. Pick up a card from the vestibule of the church. Fill in the names you want to be remembered, enclose your donation to the flower fund, and drop the envelope in the collection. Father's Day cards will be placed on the altar and prayers said on Father’s Day.

Children entering Pre-K through grade 5 are welcome to join us as we learn and grow in the understanding of God's Great Big Beautiful World, based on Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si.

Faith Formation Help Wanted. The Faith Formation Ministry needs people who are interested in sharing the love of Christ with others. Confirmation Update. We will soon begin contacting families whose teens are eligible for Confirmation for March of 2024. If you will be an incoming 10th Gr. Student for the 2023-2024 school year and are in a Catholic Homeschool program or private Catholic High School and would like to join us in preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation, please contact Mrs. Rachel Bittner (rbittner@stmaryspylesville.org) Also, if you are in 11th Grade or older and have not yet received the sacrament of Confirmation it is never too late. Worthy of the the Call Teen volunteer Training, 14-17 years of age. Prevention and Recovery Ministry
NY City teachers and students say that more and younger students are smoking marijuana throughout the day and at school. A teacher said it was hard to know whether a student was out of it because of a lack of sleep, family stress, or drugs. With the proliferation of unlicensed smoke shops and the availability of vape pens and edible products, cannabis has never been more accessible and inconspicuous. The teachers and students relayed accounts of students taking hits of vaping pens when teachers turned their backs, of bathrooms and stairwells becoming smoking lounges and of the smell of weed wafting through school hallways.
The journalism students said they were disappointed in the adults who ran their schools, their city and the smoke shops, and they hoped that bringing attention to the issue would finally prompt the authorities to act. As quoted by one of the students, “I hope that adults realize they’re not doing their job,” and “A teenager should not be worried about their friends using drugs.”

Food Pantry
Mother Hubbard’s cupboard is almost empty again!! The food pantry served 18 families in May, 63 people. This included 17 children. This was double the amount of families we served in other years.
For June, we are asking for spaghetti and other macaroni noodles, canned chicken, canned corn, spaghetti o’s, and as always, paper products.
The food pantry will be open on Saturday, June 17, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Sewing Day, Wednesday, June 14, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. please bring your sewing machine and your lunch. We will provide drinks and snacks. There are lots of jobs for “non-sewers.” We have some new projects to prepare for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. Dr. Walsh will be going on her mission trip the end of June. We are anxious to fill her suitcase with more dresses!! We are still collecting eye glasses. Thank you.

Respect Life
Faith in Action: “. . . male and female he created them.” Gen 1:27 Saint Pope John Paul II gave his vision of the human person through his addresses to the Wednesday audiences in Rome. Those talks were compile and know as the Theology of the Body. His core message is, “The body reveals God.” To better understand the teachings of the Church when it comes to the human body, Theology of the Body is a good place to start. A 6 part audio series can be found at theologyofthebody.net. Greater understanding of our faith will help us lead others to the Truth found in the One True God.
Eighth and Ninth Months (size: about 18 inches) In the last two months the baby continues to gain weight. She is developing a layer of fat that will keep her warm after birth. In the 9th month she will shift to a head-down position, preparing for birth. Her lungs are now fully developed and capable of making the transition to breathing air. After birth she will continue the human growth process for approximately the next 80 years.

Volunteers are the backbone of the parish and we welcome new volunteers with open arms. However, in the world today we must do everything we can to protect all people of all ages, the church and also yourself.
If you are ready and willing to give of your time and talent to be a part of one or more of our many ministries, please contact Barbara Sadler, Extension 22 or bsadler@stmaryspylesville.org for the information and guidance of the required Virtus training. The training will provide insight for the protection of all age groups and the responsibilities. DON’T WORRY!! It is an easy procedure.
