What Makes You Ticked Off?
Then you will say on that day, "I will give thanks to You, O LORD; For although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, And You comfort me. (Isaiah:1)
Have you ever witnessed someone getting so angry? It can be scary and funny depend on which angle you look at. Their face might change, their behaviors might get so uncomfortable and out of control. We have to be careful not to pour more fuel into the fire. It might make thing worse. Anger is a natural response to certain circumstances in life like pain, physical or emotional, of one form or another Generally, people get angry for several reasons:
1) They don’t meet their own expectations or other do not meet their expectations.
2) They have a big need to control life or others.
3) Dealing with long periods of caring for a loved one, facing their own physical limitations due to illness, injuries to themselves or others,
4) Loss of a loved one,
5) Watching acts of injustice against us or others.
During this challenging time of our Church, world, nation, family, and our own life, our heart, rightly so, are filled with anger, shame, and disappointment. We have only two choices to make. We either let anger moves us to do what is right and just or allow anger to express in a destructive manner which leads to more harm and rejections. Dealing with anger in an appropriate way can a be a positive and Christian thing to do. Let us recall Psalms 145:8 said, “The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in mercy.” (Psalms 145: 8)
At this time in your life, how do you generally deal with your anger? How easy or hard is it for you to express your anger?
Lord Jesus, there is anger in my heart and I cannot root it out. I know that I should calm down and offer the hurt and disappointment to You but my emotion is running away with me. Help me to overcome this weakness and give me peace of heart as well as mind. Let me learn from this experience and grow into a better human being. Amen.
