On Saturday, September 9th, a healing mass was held here at Blessed Sacrament. Fr. Kilian, Fr. Williams and Fr. Spina concelebrated the Mass. If you’ve never been to a healing Mass it is the same as a Sunday Mass but with a special focus on God’s healing power. The gospel and homily speak on Jesus’ healing. Fr. Kilian talked about him and Fr. Stu (from the movie) going to Lourdes together to receive healing for Fr. Stu’s degenerative disease. After the homily, there is the reception of the sick using the sacramental of oil and then begins the Eucharistic liturgy. After Mass, there is confession as well as prayer teams available for anyone who would like additional prayer.
It was touching to see fellow parishioners gathered together seeking God’s healing in their lives. After all, we are a community and what better way is there to support one another if not through prayer and asking God for His healing grace and mercy.
All of us have crosses to bear, some are much heavier than others. By attending a healing Mass, you are not only seeking God’s grace in a special way you are also showing your love, care and support of others who are suffering in our parish family.
One never knows what type of healing they will receive, although approaching Him in a faith filled and humble way assures us that we will receive something. It may not be leaving crutches at the door or eyesight restored ( although it certainly can be), but that doesn’t mean our Lord won’t work a profound miracle in you. Many pilgrims who travel across the globe to Lourdes or Fatima seeking healing from physical illness leave with a much more powerful spiritual/emotional healing. Their cross isn’t taken away but they experience God’s love in such a powerful way that their cross becomes bearable.
Philippians 4:7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. St Paul so eloquently describes the gift of peace that Jesus can bestow by simply saying that it surpasses our human understanding.
Our next healing Mass will be on December 2nd., right at the start of Advent. Whether you come for yourself, a loved one, or just to support others in the parish, we hope you will come. What a beautiful way to begin the season of Advent as we prepare to celebrate Jesus as He comes into the world to save each of us.
