Thanks to a very generous grant to us from the Minnesota Department of Health, we have installed a new water fountain complete with a water bottle filling station. As part of our effort to support overall student health, this filtered water station is sure to be well used. There are benefits galore to housing a new water station at Holy Cross:
Thanks to a very generous grant to us from the Minnesota Department of Health, we have installed a new water fountain complete with a water bottle filling station. As part of our effort to support overall student health, this filtered water station is sure to be well used. There are benefits galore to housing a new water station at Holy Cross:
- One key benefit is their ability to provide safe drinking water. Our new water station uses a high performance filter that removes common contaminants such as chlorine and lead. On average, it removes 99.3 percent of lead from our students’ drinking water.
- Another benefit is better tasting water. Our filtered water bottle filling station is equipped with high-performance filters and a cooling system, which remove the usual culprits of unpleasant tasting water: chlorine and particulate. The station actually purifies the water, making it taste “crisp and clean”.
- Healthier hydration is another benefit. the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act requires schools to have safe, accessible water options for their students. Presence of a water bottle filling station makes it easy to comply with these mandates and give students the healthy drinking option they need.
- It’s estimated that 80 percent of plastic bottles end up in the dump, only to be burned or end up in a landfill. Filtered water bottle filling stations serve as an alternative to plastic water bottles through encouraging the use of tap water and making safe, healthy water free and accessible. Our station actually has a built in water bottle counter that tracks the number of plastic water bottles the station has saved from use.

CHANCE TO WIN THE HOVERBOARD GO KART!
Students who turn in at least $250 in total pledges for the Marathon from 10 different sources will get their name in a drawing to win the Hoverboard Go Kart! Families with two or more students must turn in at least $350 in pledges from 15 different sources.

PICTURE DAY IS MONDAY
In keeping with the intent of our dress code, school picture day is a required uniform day. If you prefer your child’s picture be taken in any other clothing, students are to wear their uniforms to school, change into other clothes if needed just prior to their photo shoot, then change back into uniforms directly after their picture is taken.

COATS FOR KIDS SERVICE PROJECT
The “Coats for Kids” program collects winter items of all kinds and distributes them to places like Mary’s Place, Caring & Sharing Hands, Sabathani Center, Dorothy Day Center, who ever is in need.
The Catholic School Center of Excellence (CSCOE) has asked us to join them in this service project. Please donate gently used coats, hats, mittens/gloves, snow pants in children and teen sizes. Donations can be dropped off in the Holy Cross office now through October 9. Thank you for your generosity!
