Lesson Two: Called Out of the World
"In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:
We are proclaiming ourselves claimed via our baptism, and “marked” as belonging to Christ. This is a seemingly small matter, but it is massively important because by this action we make it clear that what follows is done not in our own names, but is an action begun and sustained by the Triune God. We do this communally because this prayer, this Mass, belongs to all of us who are baptized and sealed by Christ.
The action of crossing ourselves—the movement of our hands, first to the head, then to the stomach, then to both shoulders (traversing over the heart)—forms something like the shape of a key by which we open ourselves to that exchange with God that we call prayer. It is like a great unlocking, opening up the heart and mind to everything that is about to come, and to the community, too."

47. Gnosticism gave way to another heresy, likewise present in our day. As time passed, many came to realize that it is not knowledge that betters us or makes us saints, but the kind of life we lead. But this subtly led back to the old error of the gnostics, which was simply transformed rather than eliminated.
48. The same power that the gnostics attributed to the intellect, others now began to attribute to the human will, to personal effort. This was the case with the pelagians and semi-pelagians. Now it was not intelligence that took the place of mystery and grace, but our human will. It was forgotten that everything “depends not on human will or exertion, but on God who shows mercy” (Rom 9:16) and that “he first loved us” (cf. 1 Jn 4:19).

Women's Bible Study
Walking with Purpose is being renamed to Women’s Bible Study for better clarity. We will be running a 6 week course starting the week of October 14. We will be offering 3 times…..9 am Sunday mornings, 7 pm Tuesday evenings as well as one weekday morning (probably Tuesdays at 8 am).

Godfrey, Jennifer and Jeremy Korba, Sara Gilbert and Mark Valenzuela at the entrance of the Cathedral from 3pm - 6pm on Sunday, September 30th.
