Please pray for:
- Bill Gilbert, who died last week. His memorial Mass will be at Emmaus on Friday, September 21 at 12noon.
Fr. Jim Evans has retiredFr. Jim Evans, a retired priest who has served the parish at the chapel for a number of years has decided to retire fully. I, personally, am grateful to Fr. Jim for his service to our faith community. I have been fortunate to have known Fr. Jim for almost all of my priesthood. I first met him when I was in my first assignment at St. Mary’s Cathedral. He was then Director of Social Concerns for the Diocese of Austin and not yet ordained a Roman Catholic priest. We worked together on a number of projects including a radio show on one of the local Protestant Fundamentalist radio stations. We had great fun doing that until the owners of the station decided that we were too Catholic, and that was the end of that. I also had the great privilege of serving as Master of Ceremonies for his first Mass after his ordination to the Catholic priesthood in 1994. Fr. Jim and I share a lot of great memories. I ask all of you to wish him well and to pray for him and for his wife, Mary, as they move on to this new phase in their life.
Thanksgiving Community MealThis event has become a wonderful Emmaus tradition. We offer a free Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day to anyone in the community who wants to come. We have had dedicated and wonderful leadership and volunteers who, last year, served over 600 meals. Those included meals delivered to those who cannot drive. As we prepare for this year’s community meal we are seeking new leaders to serve as coordinators. Tyler and Marijo Marcoux are making this their last year in that role. We are looking for a new leadership team to work with them on this year’s event and then to take it over for next year. The leadership team does not have to do everything. They just need to be good organizers and delegators to the many volunteers who make this wonderful event happen. If you are interested please contact me directly and I will pass your names and contact information on to Tyler and Marijo so that they can contact you.
Fr. Rito and I will be away October 1-4Fr. Rito and I will be attending the annual Diocese of Austin priest convocation in Round Rock from Monday to Thursday, October 1-4. We will have our regular Mass on Monday morning and then there will be communion services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of that week.
Blessing of the animalsWe invite everyone to bring their pets to the Emmaus campus at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 7 for our annual blessing of the animals. This is a brief ceremony, mostly because pets just want their blessings so that they can get on with other things important to them—doggies sniffing and cats meowing and that sort of thing. So please be on time.
Fall Fest!I truly hope to see all of your at our annual Fall Fest on Sunday, September 30.
This is a great celebration of our parish and our community. There is something for everyone with the food, games, music and crafts. The Mass schedule is different on that Sunday: there will be an 11:00 AM bilingual Mass - I will preside. Then I will lead the way onto our Fall Fest venue which is the front parking lots, upper two levels, right outside the main doors of the Narthex. These Masses remain the same on Fall Fest weekend: 5:00 PM Sat Vigil, 8:30 AM Sunday, 10:00 AM at Queen of Angels Chapel and 5:00 PM Sunday. The 10:30 AM and 12:15 Masses are canceled on September 30.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Samuel Hose
