Why Ya’ll Asking Fa My Money?

The parable of hidden treasure is one of many references Jesus made using money and possessions. Fifteen percent of everything Jesus said relates to money—more than His teachings on heaven and hell combined. There is a fundamental connection between our spiritual lives and how we think about and handle money. God sees our faith and our finances as inseparable.

John the Baptist, while preaching to a crowd in Luke chapter 3 is asked by three different groups what they should do to bare the fruit of repentance. John’s reply is unexpected:
1. Everyone should share clothes and food with the poor (v11).
2. Tax collectors shouldn’t pocket extra money (13).
3. Soldiers should be content with their wages and not extort extra money (14).

John’s response highlights the priority of money and finances so that he could not address spirituality without addressing how to handle money and possessions.
