The hardest religious questions
John Henry Newman never avoided the hard religious questions.
His writings tackled many challenging issues, including how doctrine evolves and develops, the relationship between religion and higher education, and the interplay between faith and reason.
Much of his writing formed the foundation of the Vatican II documents, and even today he influences much of Catholic theology.
Watch this short video to see how one of the Church’s brightest minds tackled some of its thorniest issues:
Questions:- How does an acorn growing into an oak tree symbolize the way religious doctrine and your personal faith develop over time?
- Newman was a deep thinker, and his intellect was instrumental in his conversion. How do you nurture understanding and reason with regard to your faith?
- Newman loved the sacraments and what they mean to the Catholic tradition. What sacraments do you cherish and why?
- When he returned to England, Newman formed a new Oratory of St. Philip Neri, which was a community of priests that worked together toward the same goal and commitments. Why is being in community important when it comes to faith?
We look forward to seeing everyone next Monday, November 5th! Snacks start at 6:30PM and discussion at 7:00PM at 6651 Queensclub Dr. Houston, TX 77069.
