How beauty leads people to God
Michelangelo is generally regarded as one of the greatest artists in the history of the Western world.
From the Sistine Chapel ceiling to his David statue to his Pietà, he showed more brilliantly than anyone how beauty can serve as a route of access to God.
Michelangelo’s work embodied the principles of wholeness, harmony, and radiance, all of which lift the heart to the source of beauty itself, God.

Questions:- Reflect on the viewpoints the iconoclasts and the iconophiles brought to the forefront of theology (Nothing of this world is God vs. Everything in this world speaks of God) and how each of them has value as Bishop Barron describes.
- How does prayer in front a statue help you in prayer or in your faith journey? How would you explain it if asked why you do it?
- How does Michelangelo’s Pietà serve as a visual explanation of the Eucharist?
- Have you seen any of Michelangelo’s great masterpieces? If so, describe the experience.
- In the center panel of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, what truth about the creation of man is represented by God’s hands?
