This week has been a great week to get outside! It has been chilly in the morning but great later on in the day. (Ok, except for today!) Don't forget to check out the pictures on the St. James 4 Year Old Preschool page on Facebook! There was a lot of fun learning going on.
This week, we have been learning about the letters G, E, D and L. Each day has a letter and we use it in our learning! With our pet project going on, I have little dog bone erasers and have put the uppercase alphabet on them. They pulled a dog bone out of the dog bowl and found the matching letter! Today, the bones were buried in sand. The kids had a great time learning letters while digging for them! See the pictures below! We will be working with these letters again next week and then working on the rest of the alphabet. Be talking with your child at home about the first letter of their name, letter names and letter sounds. At this age, children can think that when they see the first letter of their name that it IS their name. We are working on the first letter of names. So, if your child sees their first letter of their name and says, "Look, there's my name!" Remind them that what they are seeing is the first letter in their name. You can tell them that their name starts with "X" and that is the letter name.
Next week is Fire Prevention Week. We will be participating in the fire prevention activities on Tuesday! Tuesday is also PICTURE DAY! Please send back the picture form!
SNACK: Thank you to Ty and his family for bringing snack this week! The kids thought it was great try Ants on a Log. They got some good practice spreading peanut butter into their celery. Some were trying celery for the first time today! Thank you for the yummy snack! Next week, Addison is our snack person!
A couple of things...
Please remember to send a coat with your child. We go outside everyday unless the windchill is below 15 degrees. It can get windy and cold on our playground! Even if they don't wear it, please send it.
Please send your child's water bottle each Monday! This just makes it easier on the kids. We can get to the business of playing instead of cleaning up our spilled water messes.
I am looking for...
1. A pet to be brought in. This can be a dog, cat, fish, hamster, guinea pig or turtle. I would really prefer NO SNAKES! (Sorry, just a personal preference!) The children have been working hard in learning about pets and taking care of them in the dramatic play. I thought it would be another fun way for them to learn about pets if we had visitors! (Please make sure your pets are vaccinated!) Also, if you know that your child is afraid of a certain type of animal, please let me know! We will make other arrangements for them.
2. Pumpkins. We will start learning more about pumpkins as the month goes on. We will be carving pumpkins on October 25th. If we could have a couple to carve (and eat the seeds) and then to compare and measure and pound tees into, that would be great.
3. Apples. The week of October 15th we will be making applesauce in our classroom! The kids will be cutting the apples and putting the sugar and cinnamon and lemon juice into the crock pot and we will see what happens. If we could have everyone bring in 1 apple on Monday, October 15th, that would be so sweet! If you would like to be a part of this WONDERFUL experiment...please let me know!
