The Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement (VEYM) of the greater Houston area will gather at our parish this weekend for their annual meeting. We expect a large and enthusiastic gathering of VEYM and a joyful celebration of their Vietnamese and Catholic heritage. We welcome them to our parish and share in their joy.
The gathering will take place at St. Matthias the Apostle church grounds early Saturday morning and will continue through early Sunday afternoon. They will have a full agenda of prayer, workshops and youth activities. Most of the activities will be conducted in Vietnamese.
The VEYM invite us to join them Saturday evening at 6:30pm for the procession of the Eucharist, Mother Mary and the Vietnamese martyrs. Following the procession they will pray the rosary followed by a release of a rosary made of balloons. If enough of us are present, they will conduct the celebration in both English and Vietnamese. Please plan to join them for this procession to show our support.
The VEYM shares its roots with the international Eucharistic Youth Movement, so named by Pope Pius X in 1960. The VEYM is an international movement with communities throughout the world including France, Germany, Canada and Australia. Read the history of the VEYM in the USA and of the international EYM at https://www.veym.net/pdf/Introduction%20to%20VEYM%20USA.pdf and https://www.popesprayer.net/history-of-the-eucharistic-youth-movement/.
The mission of the VEYM has two overarching goals: (1) to train youths to become well-rounded individuals and mature Christians and; (2) to unite and guide the youths to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and take part in building the society. The movement utilizes the Word of God in the Scriptures and the official teachings of the Catholic Church as its foundations in educating and guiding the youths in all activities. To all VEYM members, Jesus Christ in the Eucharist is the center of life, the source of spiritual life and the reason for living.
