Today, we celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius of Antioch. Here are 3 things we should know about this great Saint:
1. He was a Martyr in 108 AD, after being forced to walk over 1800 miles from Antioch, Syria (modern day Turkey) to Rome where he was fed to the lions. 1800 miles is the distance from Indianapolis to Las Vegas.
2. He was Bishop of Antioch. He succeeded St. Peter as Bishop of this See. He provided a powerful witness to Jesus.
3. He was the 1st to call the followers of Christ ~ Catholic. He also wrote 7 letters to the early Church dealing w/ Church unity, the Sacraments and the role of the Bishop.
As Catholics, we are called to provide that powerful witness to Jesus. Be that Martyr ~ This means making those sacrifices & stepping up to provide that witness in our homes, in our work place, community, Church, School w/o being asked...
