Solemnity of St. Timothy – January 28, 2024
BIOGRAPHY
Born at Lystra, Lycaenia, Timothy was the son of a Greek father and Eunice,
a converted Jewess. He joined St. Paul when Paul preached at Lystra replacing Barnabas, and became Paul’s close friend and confidant. Paul allowed him to be circumcised to placate the Jews, since he was the son of a Jewess, and he then accompanied Paul on his second missionary journey. When Paul was forced to flee Berea because of the enmity of the Jews there, Timothy remained, but after a time was sent to Thessalonica to report on the condition of the Christians there and to encourage them under persecution, a report that led to Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians when he joined Timothy at Corinth. Timothy and Erastus were sent to Macedonia in 58, went to Corinth to remind the Corinthians of Paul’s teaching, and then accompanied Paul into Macedonia and Achaia. Timothy was probably with Paul when the Apostle was imprisoned at Caesarea and then Rome, and was himself imprisoned but then freed. According to tradition, he went to Ephesus, became its first bishop, and was stoned to death there when he opposed the pagan festival of Katagogian in honor of Diana. Paul wrote two letters to Timothy, one written about 65 from Macedonia and the second from Rome while he was in prison awaiting execution.
While his feast day in the liturgical calendar is January 26, our parish has moved it on a Sunday, January 23, and has proclaimed it as a Solemnity. The Novena in his honor begins on the 14th and ends on the 22nd. The theme of our celebration is “One Family loving and serving the Lord”.

BIOGRAFÍA
Nacido en Listra, Lycaenia, Timoteo era hijo de padre griego y Eunice, una judía conversa. Se unió a San Pablo cuando Pablo predicó en Listra reemplazando a Bernabé, y se convirtió en amigo cercano y confidente de Pablo. Pablo permitió que lo circuncidaran para aplacar a los judíos, ya que era hijo de una judía, y luego acompañó a Pablo en su segundo viaje misionero. Cuando Pablo se vio obligado a huir de Berea debido a la enemistad de los judíos allí, Timoteo se quedó, pero después de un tiempo fue enviado a Tesalónica para informar sobre la condición de los cristianos allí y animarlos bajo la persecución, informe que llevó a Pablo a la primera carta a los tesalonicenses cuando se reunió con Timoteo en Corinto. Timoteo y Erasto fueron enviados a Macedonia en el año 58, fueron a Corinto para recordarles a los corintios las enseñanzas de Pablo y luego acompañaron a Pablo a Macedonia y Acaya. Timoteo probablemente estaba con Pablo cuando el Apóstol fue encarcelado en Cesarea y luego en Roma, y él mismo fue encarcelado pero luego liberado. Según la tradición, fue a Éfeso, se convirtió en su primer obispo y allí fue apedreado cuando se opuso a la fiesta pagana de Katagogian en honor a Diana. Pablo escribió dos cartas a Timoteo, una escrita alrededor del año 65 desde Macedonia y la segunda desde Roma mientras estaba en prisión esperando su ejecución.
Si bien su fiesta en el calendario litúrgico es el 26 de enero, nuestra parroquia la ha trasladado al domingo 23 de enero y la ha proclamado como Solemnidad. La Novena en su honor comienza el 14 y termina el 22. El tema de nuestra celebración es “Una Familia amando y sirviendo al Señor”.

- There will be a Blessing of Throats at the 8:00 am Mass on Saturday, February 3rd, the Memorial of St. Blaise, patron saint of persons suffering from throat illnesses.
- Our clustered parishes will be celebrating a Healing Mass in observance of the World Day of the Sick and the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on Saturday, February 10, at 10:30am at St. Luke Church. There will be an anointing of the sick and blessing of caregivers and health professionals. All are welcome.
- The Free Produce Market will be closed this Sunday and on the 28th of January. It will resume on the 4th of February.
- Please join us for a Celebration of Life in Loving Memory of Rev. Fr. Honesto Gile Jr. this coming Saturday Feb 3, 2024@ 10:00am Rosary and 11:00am Memorial Mass.

- Nuestras parroquias agrupadas estarán celebrando una Misa de sanación en observancia del Día Mundial de los Enfermos y la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes el Sábado, 10 Febrero, a las 10:30 de la mañana en la Iglesia de San Lucas. Habrá unción para los enfermos y una bendición a los que ocupan un rol de cuidado y los profesionales de la salud. Todos son Bienvenidos.
- El Mercado Libre de Productos estará cerrado este domingo y el 28 de enero. Se reanudará el 4 de febrero.
