6th Sunday in ordinary Time
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Be my protector O God, for you are my rock, my stronghold (Cf. Ps31 (30): 3-4)!
We are fast approaching a pinnacle of the liturgical year and the beginning of Lent. Are we ready to allow God to be our Rock and stronghold in all things we do in our lives? This is a question we should ponder during prayer, so we are ready to allow Him to bring us up and support us in our battles in life.
We do not have to fight our battles, sometimes alone, as in the time of Moses and Aaron. Allow the priest to help heal us in the sacrament of penance so that we can be made clean from our sins as we learn in Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46.
Or perhaps reflect on the powerful words from Psalm 32: “I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.” Embracing material things like social media, televisions, alcohol, drugs, and pornography cloud our reality and move us away from the love of Christ. Instead, be glad in the Lord, and open our hearts to the Gospel media he wants us to embrace.
Do everything for the Glory of God, for the good of the many, and not our own benefit (1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1). Is this how we live our life? If so Alleluia, and praise God! If not, we have hope like the beggar that pleaded to be made clean, to be free from sin, to be open completely to Jesus’ love for him. The beggar gave complete trust in God. What happened? The leprosy, the complete suffering immediately left the beggar. The point from the Gospel of Mark 1:40-45 is to once again show our sins to the priest as he serves to hear our genuine sorrow for our sins, to not sin again, and to absolve us of for the genuine sorrow we have for our sins.
This Lent make it a point to truly and genuinely develop an act of contrition, what we will do to be better, and accept and follow Jesus all the time, every hour of the day, and completely embrace His love for us. Allow the priest to truly help us grow in our journey toward God. Those my friends are the blessed people and praise God for all those that follow the path of the Lord!
In Christ,
Deacon Patrick
