Begin by reading Luke 18:35-42
As we walk with Jesus on his walk to Jerusalem, we hear Jesus say two words that have changed people's lives for more than two thousand years: "Follow me".
To follow someone means to pay attention to where they are going and what they are doing. Sometimes we follow someone because we do not know the way to our destination. Sometimes we follow because we know one way to get there, but someone else knows a better way. Both reasons apply to us this Lent.
While we may have been through Lent before, we have never been through this Lent at this stage of life and in the particular circumstances we are facing now. Following Jesus, letting him lead us, assures us that we will arrive at our desired destination.
However, the one we are following also desires to know where we want to go. In a sense, Jesus is asking you (and me) today "What do you want this Lent? What do you need? Where are you in life? What do you ask of me?" Jesus seeks to take you on a journey within. Therefore naming your desires at the beginning of the journey will enable you to receive from him the deepest desires of your heart.
What struggle is Jesus asking you to surrender to him this Lent so that he may fill you up again?
Jesus loves you personally, intimately, with all his strength. He particularly loves that which makes you you: your humor, your quirks, your spirit, your whole self. Thinking about just how specific and individual his love is for you, what thoughts and feelings come to mind?
• VIDEO REFLECTION: How does picturing Jesus as a Bridegroom affect your understanding of his mission and his journey to Jerusalem? How does it affect the way you see your relationship with Jesus?
• Now take a moment to reflect on the past week, going over Luke 9:22-26.
