NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
This week marked the beginning of the Lenten season, with kindergarten students leading the way in the ceremonial "Laying the Alleluia Banner to Rest." This practice is aimed at teaching our younger students about abstaining from singing or saying "Alleluia" during Lent, with the promise of its joyful return at Easter with Jesus' resurrection.

Students from kindergarten to 8th grade joined St. Benedict parishioners for the Ash Wednesday Mass. After the Mass, Deacon Ed, and preschool teachers enacted a skit for the preschoolers, helping them grasp the concept of saying "Yes to Jesus" during Lent. Then they received ashes on their foreheads, just like the "big kids."
Next week, your children will bring home your "volunteer obligation report" which details the hours accumulated thus far in the 2023-24 academic year. We deeply appreciate the partnership of our parents in supporting our school community through their dedication and commitment to volunteerism. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in shaping the educational journey of our students.

Most applications for Tax Credit financial assistance are now open! If you plan to use Tax Credit Funds next year, please note that most applications are due April 15. See a list of STO scholarship organizations HERE.

If you plan to use the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), please check your email regularly to renew your contract or check the ESA website regularly to find out when new applications for the 2024-2025 school year will be available. If you used ESA this year, you do not need to create a new application.
If you have an incoming kindergartener, please contact Kelly McLean to discuss the best options for financial assistance.
**VERY IMPORTANT**
If you have used ESA this year, but have "Recommended Funds" at an STO, you MUST have an application in for the 2023-2024 school year in order to retain your funds for future years!!!
SJB Choir
Our SJB Choir participated in the American Federation Pueri Cantores Choral Festival & Mass at St. Mary's Basilica in Phoenix last weekend. They represented our school and performed admirably along with choirs from other schools and parishes in our Diocese.

The NUN RUN! Sat. March 2
The Poor Clare Nuns invite you to participate in the 15th Annual Nun Run in Tempe. Choose from a 10K, 5K Run/Walk, or 1-mile Walk. Registration is $40 for adults (early-bird by Feb. 18) and $15 for children 18 and under before race day.
