2nd Sunday of Lent
Dear Blessed Trinity teachers, students, and families,
This weekend we hear one of my favorite prefigurements of Jesus - Abraham and Isaac! I love teaching our students about the symbols we see in Abraham and Isaac and how they are seen in the fulfillment of Jesus: they're often mind-blown...
- Abraham put the wood for the sacrifice on the back of his son Isaac to carry up the mountain // Jesus, the son of God, had wood on his back for the sacrifice of the Lamb of God carried up the mountain
- The mountain that Abrhama and Isaac climbed was in the range of Moriah // Jesus walked up mount Calvary which is in the same mountain range
- God says to Abraham, "I will provide myself a sacrifice" // later Jesus is that sacrifice - God himself
- Isaac willingly lays himself down to be sacrificed on the pile of wood for the offering// Jesus lays down his life to be sacrificed on the wood of the cross
- Abraham is promised countless descendants to populate the Promised Land // Jesus opens the doors to Heaven (THE promised land) for all of humanity
What a beautiful foreshadowing we have in Abraham and Isaac!
I hope you and your families are having a wonderful and fruitful Lenten season,
--Mrs. Zepp
