In John 2:13-25, Jesus enters the temple and finds it turned into a marketplace. With righteous anger, he overturns tables, symbolizing a purification of God's house. This incident challenges us to reflect on the sanctity of our own hearts and spiritual spaces. The temple, once a place of reverence, had lost its sacred purpose. Similarly, we may allow distractions and worldly concerns to overshadow our connection with the divine.
Jesus' actions invite us to cleanse our inner temples, removing the clutter that hinders true worship. The temple's reconstruction in three days foreshadows Christ's resurrection, emphasizing the transformative power of faith. As believers, we are called to uphold the spiritual integrity of our lives and communities. This passage prompts introspection, urging us to align our actions with genuine devotion. SEASON OF LENT
Lent is the yearly celebration by the Church of its corporate conversion in Jesus Christ. During Lent, the Liturgy prepares the Catechumens to celebrate the Paschal Mystery by the various stages of Christian Initiation. It also prepares the faithful for Easter as they recall their baptism and enter into penance in preparation for the greatest Feast of the year.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of Fast & Abstinence. All Catholics ages 18-59 are to observe fasting and those 14 and older are to abstain from meat on those days.
Penitential Discipline: Penance is an important requirement of the Christian life. Fulfillment of this duty involves prayer, works of piety and charity, self-denial and fulfilling our obligations more faithfully. Every Friday of the year, especially during Lent, is a penitential day.
