St. Theresa Parish Lenten Opportunities
The retreat will be recorded and will be available to view later in the day following each session, on the Lenten Retreat Page of the parish website https://sttheresaoakland.org/Lenten%20Retreat
Sincere thanks to all who will participate in the “School/Parish Workday.” More than thirty individuals and some excellent teens are signed up to participate and complete or start projects like refurbishing the school garden spaces behind the library/office building, refurbishing the sandbags behind the church building to prevent floods in the church hall when the rains are fierce. Heater filters in classrooms will be changed and windows repaired in the school. A few sinks will no longer leak, and all the trash will be properly sorted.
Lights on the Event Center and Office building had transformers replaced, vines and other growth on the parking lot and west school side will be trimmed, some things in the hall that are ready for a dumpster are strategically located for an upcoming day.
Five old buildings present many challenges every month and the pride we can all feel when our parish/school site shines a bit brighter. Tremendous savings are also achieved when many put a few hours of work into keeping our spiritual and for some little ones learning home clean, repaired, and refurbished. May God bless everyone who helped, and we look forward to the next day when new challenges will be upon us, or old challenges can be dealt with for completion.
With your ongoing support and contributions, I am happy to say I think the diocese has signed the contract to replace the roof on the church building. We are hoping the contractor can work during the Easter break when few children are on the campus. I will keep you up to date before the work begins.
I want to again invite all of you to sign up for the Seder Diner on March 20 that will be held in the meeting rooms. Three of the Gospel accounts (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) describe the Last Supper in the context of a Jewish Seder Meal. At St. Theresa, we have strictly followed the words, prayers, and actions of a simple Jewish Seder Meal. Come and you will hear things familiar because through the ages, the Church has incorporated some of these prayers and actions in how we now celebrate the Mass. The parish provides a main dish for supper, and we ask when you sign up to agree to make a plate with a kosher recipe furnished. There are special moments for the children who attend, so come as a family and enrich our parish family’s remembrance of what has guided our prayer through our lives.
Someone asked again about how to get a name on the ‘prayer list’ that appears in the bulletin or how to have a name announced at Mass. Please us the link on the parish website https://sttheresaoakland.org/about-us/contact-us or contact the parish office, Cathy Brady, or me, and we will arrange it. We ask if you are putting a friend’s name for an announcement that the person who is being mentioned gives their permission. A name is announced for three consecutive weeks unless there is a major change in their health. Names stay on the list in the bulletin until someone says to take it off. If you have a doubt, give us a call.
Easter will be here early at the end of the month. This is a good week to invite a friend, neighbor, or parishioner you haven’t seen for awhile at church to join you. I guarantee if you ask, you may have a very good response, and someone may be very grateful to you for asking.
Let us especially pray for hundreds of adults who will join the Church through the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. We are delighted to formally initiate someone who was baptized in another Christian Church but now seeks full communion in the Catholic Church. Please pray for our Confirmation candidates and First Communion candidates who will receive their sacraments in April. Please keep in pray all who were witness to us in our faith. May God bless their good example and reward them because they made a difference in our lives.
The Finance Committee has a need for someone whose background includes being a controller.
It will not be a big time commitment but we need your skills. If you'd like to explore this, please call Carolyn Mahoney at 510-918-1987.
Social Justice Corner
Join us this lent as we follow the meditations and prayers with the Ignatian Solidarity Network.
Lent 2024: it’s time to refresh.
In a world filled with personal and structural sin that allows injustice to grow, we are invited to refresh our souls and our imaginations to make space for the Spirit to work through us:
To reshape a dehumanizing immigration system into one that centers human dignity.
To recommit to making racial justice a reality.
To renew trust in abundance versus scarcity so that all people’s needs are met while safeguarding a fragile planet.
During the Lenten season, Psalm 23 reminds us of God’s intent that we find times of refreshing:Beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul.
St. Ignatius of Loyola refers to these times of refreshing as consolations: a deep-seated sense of God’s presence leading to spiritual growth.
How are we being refreshed and consoled in our lives, in our Church, and in our work for justice?
Throughout Lent, writers from the Ignatian network will guide us ina season of refreshing.Join us each day to be replenished, reinvigorated, and refreshed.
Here is the website for you to register but we will be highlighting some of their postings on Flock Note.
This weekend, listen to Day #24 on the website and Reflect on “Love is the answer.”

This was sent to a parishioner using another parishioners name as the sender in an attempt to obtain the parishes account information.
What's the current available balance in the account? And do we have Zelle or Venmo Linked with our bank account? Also, You need to process the payment immediately to the vendor for our Website Upgrade . Kindly get back to me Asap.
A number of people have once again received phony emails from Fr. Bob and/or our principal Alicia Ortegon asking for gifts cards. If you receive an email from either of them requesting help with gifts, gift cards, money ..... PLEASE IGNORE and DELETE. It's a scam! They will never request help from you in this manner.
