“Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself…becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Phil 2:6-8)
This weekend we celebrate Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. Our liturgy begins with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey with people crying “Hosanna!” With great joy we honor Christ as King, and yet, we are filled with sorrow as we recount together His passion and death. But all is not lost, because we know of His glorious Resurrection and so we are reminded that He is the perfect model for us all to emulate on our own Christian journeys.
From our First Reading, Isaiah’s suffering servant foreshadows what Jesus will endure for all humanity during His passion. This message is re-echoed in our Second Reading, where St. Paul, in a letter to the Philippians writes the above [see in italics]. Jesus gives us a lasting gift through His self-emptying; how we share that gift with others is how we define ourselves as His stewards by striving to imitate Jesus in our homes, our churches, and our workplaces.
Thank You to Deacon Luc Lambert for writing this reflection
