AN EASTER REFLECTION FROM FATHER BILL
“He is risen!” “He is truly risen!” This is the good news of Easter. When Jesus rose from the dead, He promised that he would be with us “all days till the end of the world,” that He would enable us to do great things by the power of His Spirit, and that he would show us the way that leads to fullness of life. Exciting stuff!
Jesus promised us three “P’s….His Presence, His Power, and His Plan for achieving eternal joy and peace. Do you believe what our Lord is promising us? Are you open to receiving the Lord’s call to follow his way in some new way?
The Easter season is a special time each year, when we are invited to renew our commitment to following the way of our risen Lord, to embracing his way of selfless love and sacrifice. Are you ready to be a true follower of Jesus in word and deed, to enter more fully into his way of living that leads to eternal life?
As you may know, I’ve been dealing with some major health issues in the past few years. Most recently I’ve been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, which limits my mobility to a great extent. That is why you don’t see me presiding at Mass and preaching the Word. This has been a difficult reality to accept. I talk to the risen Lord in prayer and ask Him what He wants me to be or do, given my limitations. I sense Him calling me to some new form of ministry, but what? I know I must be open to what he wants of me at this time of my life, how he wants me to share the good news of His Resurrection. I’ve been walking through some dark days of doubt about my future, but I ask the Lord to strengthen my faith as I look for signs of new life.
So what about you? Do you believe that the risen Lord is truly with you and has a plan for you wherever you are in your life right now? Are you open to the presence, the power, and the plan of Jesus for you here and now?
I recently saw a TV ad for a local bank. The ad asks the question: “What would you like the power to do?” The ad is suggesting that we should look to the power of money to help us with whatever we need to live a good life. During the Easter season, I invite you to ask yourself: “As a Christian, what would I like the power to do?” I hope you would answer: “I want the power of Jesus to help me live and love as His follower, to proclaim his presence in my daily life.” HE IS TRULY RISEN! ! !
