"Mental Illness: Call to Isolation – Response to Community"
Monday Nov.19, 7:00pm
Room 414 Willard Straight Hall
A presentation and discussion with Deacon Brian McNulty, Mental Health Resource Minister for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.
As Christians we are called into a community. We strive to be inclusive and welcoming. There are people, friends and strangers, who do not feel welcome or resist being involved with others. Do you know someone like this? This gathering will discuss the challenges of living with mental illness and the challenges of being a friend to a person with mental illness. Depression, anxiety and isolation can be signs of a need for community. Sometimes we do not know how to respond or where to turn for help. The teachings of the Christian Church and the Roman Catholic Church direct us to help call those outside of our community into relationship with God and with us. These and other ideas will be explored in this meeting.
Winter Break Trip
Nazareth Farm is a Catholic community in rural West Virginia that transforms lives through their service retreat experience and home repair they provide for low income families. On this retreat you will have the opportunity to develop your prayer life, live a simple lifestyle in an intentional community, and deepen your understanding of service. If you are interested, email Pat (pjg223), or sign up on our website under the Serve tab. Priority will be given to those who have not been to Naz Farm before. There are still spots to sign up.
November Food Drive
Throughout the month of November, the Cornell Catholic Community will sponsor a food drive for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Stop by Anabel Taylor Hall to pick up a brown paper bag and return it by Sunday, Nov. 25 to donate it to the food pantry. Bags will be available after Sunday Mass in Sage Chapel as well. You can return bags to our offices in ATH or bring them to Mass. The Food Bank of the Southern Tier partners with over 160 organizations such as food pantries, meal programs, shelters, after-school programs and more to provide aid to those in need.
