“And it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians.”
(Acts 11:26)
When I hear this reading from the Acts of the Apostles, I am brought back to the formation I received when I was a summer missionary. The guy giving us this formation shared that when the disciples were in Antioch, they had to be called Christians because there was not another way to describe them other than being “Christ-like.” Wow!
The people in Antioch saw the disciple’s way of life and could not put another word to it other than the fact that they are like Christ. I hope that this witness of the disciples provides as much inspiration for you as it does for me. May we strive to conduct our lives in such a way that people who do not even know us look at us and say “they must be a Christian.”
How can I follow Christ more closely today?
Oh, Good Jesus, please give me the grace to be like You. When people see me, may they see You. Amen.
