Dear Friend,
In the groundbreaking book Bowling Alone (2000), sociologist Dr. Robert Putnam outlines how recent generations of American society are suffering a deficit in overall social capital. Part of the observation is that Americans are siting back and assuming someone else will do the work that needs to get done. The larger part of society, including Generation Alpha, Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X wait to participate, to volunteer, or to get engaged with the explicit concern that a commitment might prevent them from the instant mobility required to pivot toward something (only possibly) more special.
In many ways, Saint Andrew's tag line - Gather, Learn, Love - is an antidote to the isolation that comes from a society that is largely... bowling alone. The call to community, which echoes from our communion with Christ, is repeated by Saint Andrew Parish over and over with transformational results. As you read week after week of the many opportunities to gather, volunteer, learn more, and act more boldly with your faith, don't be shy! Take a step and join us in the joyful pursuit of being disciples of Jesus!
