Dear Fellow Parishioners of St. Benilde,
As I have walked the hallways and grounds of this tiny school over the past four months, I have come to a deeper sense of how blessed I am to be a part of such a unique and special community. My family and I have felt so welcomed by you, our fellow parishioners, as we have transitioned from Baton Rouge to Metairie.
Two months ago, while on a personal trip to Phoenix, Arizona, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Sr. Augustine Dempsey (second principal of the school and one of the four founding nuns). I listened to her talk for nearly an hour and a half with such deep affection and passion about her time at St. Benilde. She challenged me to fill each student with, “a Catholic outlook, the truth of the faith,” and “a value for the sacraments.” She also enlightened me with the following wisdom, “A child will remember how you make them feel; smother them with kindness, Tom,” she said in her sweet Irish accent.
After gaining these insights into the founding years of St. Benilde from Sr. Augustine, I am now challenged with the legacy of the next 50 years. I write to you today to ask you to partner with me in making an investment in this school which is cherished by so many.
Monday, November 12 marks the first day of what is our school’s most important annual fundraiser, the #iGiveCatholic Campaign. Over the past two years this campaign has raised more than $90,000 for SBS.
In celebration of the school’s 50th Anniversary, our goal this year is to raise $68,000 in honor of our 1968 founding year. Through the generosity of the Whitman Family Foundation we have a matching gift dollar for dollar of the first $34,000 raised. You may go online to parish website (StBenilde.org) or school website (StBenilde.com) from November 12-27 to make a contribution to this campaign.
I am not asking today to invest in a curriculum program or the renovation of a building, but rather the potential of a child. When you give to St. Benilde School, that money helps enable each and every one of our students to meet his or her fullest potential. I challenge you to go Wall Street and find a better investment than the potential of a child.
I believe Catholic education isn't expensive, I believe Catholic education is priceless. It’s priceless because Catholic education transforms the souls of children through the divine life and love of God every single day.
When you give to St. Benilde School, you are not just making a donation, you are making an investment. I believe every investment deserves a return and the return on investing in a child’s potential in a Catholic school setting, is both priceless and eternal.
Please partner with me today by making an investment in our beloved school.
Lastly and most importantly, I beg you to pray for the success of our campaign. I believe the greatest power on this planet is the power of prayer. Through your prayers and God’s providence, I believe we will reach our goal of $68,000.
In sincere gratitude,
Thomas Huck
