Dear brothers and sisters,
On this fifth Sunday of Easter the Gospel is centered on the vine. Just as last week, Jesus spoke of himself as the good shepherd, this week the Church teaches us that he is the vine. The parable of the Gospel is said during the Last Supper according to Saint John. This parable directly expresses with great clarity that the Christian life is a mystery of communion with Jesus. “He who abides in me and I in him - says the Lord - bears abundant fruit; because without me you can do nothing” (Jn 15, 5). The people of Israel are compared during Scriptures to the fruitful vineyard when they are faithful to God. Therefore, the Lord's invitation is to be close to him always.
This week one of the reflections given in our daily readings of the Mass taught us how faith is not a leap into the unknown. Moreover, faith is a personal experience of Christ, who comes to meet us every day. Remaining in the Lord means being in the Lord in all the actions we carry out, be it work, family, etc.
Moreover, let us also pray for the catechism children who receive their first communion and confirmation this weekend. Let us ask that the parents of these children join Christ as the authentic vine that he is in every action of their lives. We also pray for all of us that we may remain in Him.

En este quinto Domingo de Pascua el Evangelio está centrado en la vid. Así como la semana pasada Jesús se pronunciaba como el buen pastor, esta semana nos enseña la Iglesia que él es la vid. Es una parábola que Jesús recita durante la última cena según san Juan. Esta parábola expresa directamente con gran claridad que la vida cristiana es misterio de comunión con Jesús” El que permanece en mí y yo en él - dice el Señor- da fruto abundante; porque sin mí no podéis hacer nada” (Jn 15, 5). A menudo en el Evangelio se compara al pueblo de Israel con la viña fecunda cuando es fiel a Dios. La invitación del Señor por tanto es la de estar cerca de él siempre.
En esta semana una de las reflexiones que se intuían en las lecturas diarias es como la fe no es un salto a lo desconocido, como piensan muchos. La fe es una experiencia personal de Cristo, el cual viene a encontrarnos en el día a día. Permanecer en el Señor significa estar en el Señor en todas las acciones que llevamos a cabo, bien sea trabajo, familia, etc.
Pidamos también por los niños del catecismo que reciben este fin de semana la primera comunión y la confirmación. Pidamos para que los padres de estos niños se unan a Cristo como la auténtica vid que es el.

FIRST COMMUNION &
CONFIRMATION MASS will be
celebrated on Saturday, May 4th, at 10:00 am. ALL students must be at the church by 9:00am. The rehearsal will be on Monday, April 29th, at 6:00 pm for students and sponsors. Confessions for STUDENTS ONLY will be on Friday, May 3rd, at 6:00pm.
The last day of RE class will be Wednesday, May 1ST. Parents, students and catechists will all meet in the church for the Coronation of our Blessed Mother at 6pm.
WIDOWS SUPPORT GROUP There is a great need to be in community with others after the loss of a loved one. Father Julio has graciously agreed to let us form a Widows Support Group. We are getting together to support one another in prayer and God’s gift of love. The first meeting will be Thursday, May 23rd, 1:00-2:00pm at the Parish Life Center, Luceros Room. If you are interested call the parish office.
Our ST. AUGUSTINE FOOD PANTRY had a great start to its reopening. Over 2500 pounds of food were donated through the St. Augustine Parish Food Drive. With the donation of food items and cash we were able to provide food for an average of 100 families/ 350 individuals per week over the six weeks. May 6thwe will be our next Parish food drive. We will be hosting a food drive on the first Sunday of every month.

Felicidades a nuestros 90 estudiantes y 8 adultos que
recibieron la confirmación y
primera comunión el 27 de Abril. Padre Julio Cesar Amezcua-Martin y el Padre Joshua Nyoni celebraron esta liturgia especial con los
estudiantes, padrinos y padres.
El último día de clase del Catecismo del grupo Ingles será el Miércoles, 1 de mayo. Los padres, estudiantes y catequistas se reunirán en la iglesia para la Coronación de nuestraSantísima Madre a las 6 pm.
GRUPO DE APOYO A VIUDAS Existe una gran necesidad de estar en comunidad con los demás después de la pérdida de un ser querido. El Padre Julio ha accedido amablemente a permitirnos formar un Grupo de Apoyo a Viudas. Nos estamos reuniendo para apoyarnos unos a otros en oración y en el don del amor de Dios. La primera reunión será el jueves 23 de mayo de 1:00 a 2:00 p. m. en el Centro de Vida Parroquial, Salón Luceros. Si está interesado llame a la oficina parroquial.
Nuestro CASA DE DISPENSA DE SAN AGUSTIN tuvo un gran inicio en su reapertura. Se donaron más de 2500 libras de alimentos a través de la colecta de alimentos de la parroquia de San Agustin. Con la donación de alimentos y dinero en efectivo pudimos proporcionar alimentos a un promedio de 100 familias/350 personas por semana durante las seis semanas.El 6 de Mayo tendremos nuestra próxima colecta de alimentos parroquial. Organizaremos una colecta de alimentos el primer domingo de cada mes.
