Next week we honor our fabulous teachers who have dedicated themselves to the vocation of nurturing our children in faith and knowledge. Teacher Appreciation Week gives us the opportunity to reflect on the positive influence teachers have on our children everyday. I observe the ASCS teacher’s passion for learning on a daily basis, pouring their energy and talents into creating robust lessons that weave the development of moral character and reasoning into each day. We are very fortunate to have a collection of teachers who all share in the mission of high academic standards and the goodness of God’s love. THANK YOU to our teachers for the impact you have on the children at All Saints Catholic School.

Each month All Saints Catholic School recognizes a student who makes a difference in the areas of Faith, Service, and Academics. During the month of March ASCS recognizes 5th grade student, Hayden Hibbler. Hayden is a sweet soul who is kind to everyone she meets. She loves science and animals. This year Hayden has blossomed as a resilient student, demonstrating determination as she works through math problems or scientific investigations. She eagerly enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. Keep up the great work and effort in your classes Hayden!! You brighten our days with your huge smile and love.
God works through each of us to share His love and kindness. We strive to grow problem solvers at All Saints Catholic School. This week ASCS recognizes the kindness of 3rd grade student, Hanna Beauxis. Hanna is always ready and willing to help a classmate out. She is a team player and works well in any group, often acting as a mediator to help sort out problems. Last week she was especially kind to her classmate with an injury, helping put up her chair at the end of the day.
MAY CROWNING
On Wednesday, May 1st All Saint's students honored the Queen of Heaven and the mother of Jesus with the May Crowning ceremony. The students offered up flowers, provided by the All Saints Rosary Society, and crowned the statue of Mary in St. Mary Church. After Mass, the students processed from the church and crowned Mary in the school. Thank you to the Rosary Society for giving the students a tasty ice cream treat to enjoy after the Crowning ceremony.
MEASURING MOTION
The 3rd grade students were making observations and measurements of the motion of a wind-up toy to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion.
THE EFFECTS OF DEFORESTATION ON EROSION OF SOIL
The Middle School students are reading the novel "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind." During this novel study, the students are learning about geography, culture, human struggles through drought and hunger, inventiveness to solve a problem, electricity and circuits, renewable energy, and the effects of humans on the environment. To understand how deforestation contributed to drought conditions and erosion in Malawi, the students set up an experiment. They measured the absorption of water compared to run-off of water in three different conditions. The conditions were soil with deep rooted grasses and plants, soil with leaf litter and wood chips, and bare soil. The students found that bare soil created conditions that caused run off of water and erosion of the soil. They also examined how deforestation contributed to limited availability of electricity for the communities in Malawi.

LEARNING TO CODE ROBOTS
The 4th and 5th grade students traveled to Starbase on Tuesday. During their lessons, the students learned to speak the language of robotic coding. They had to use experimentation and reasoning to determine how color icons codes gave instruction to Ozobots to behave in different ways.
Students applied measurements and geometry to tell the Sphero Robots how to travel to a target.
Building a Tiny House: Applied Math Project on Area and Perimeter
The students in Mrs. Austin's 3rd grade class are solving real world mathematical problems involving perimeter by determining the lengths of sides and calculating areas. The students will be able to accurately calculate the area and perimeter of items within tiny house which they are constructing.
“It seems to me almost incredible,” said Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, “that an invention of the human mind and the structure of the universe coincide. Mathematics, which we invented, really gives us access to the nature of the universe and makes it possible for us to use it.”

School Update
Getting ready for fun during recess! The playground is being installed this week. There are three different structures, two for the older students and additional equipment in the preschool playground. Wood chips will be added soon and a fence will be erected around the preschool playground.
Congratulations Blaise Peters, for representing All Saints Catholic School at the Diocese of Gaylord Catechism Bee.
Everyone is welcome to join us for the Children's Mass on Wednesday's at 9:00 am. During the Children's Mass, the students have the opportunity to serve out the ministry of the church as Altar Servers and readers.

Congratulations to preschool student, Maverick Hunter, who was Baptized last Sunday.
Kursten Senchuk made a Profession of Faith during the school Mass on Wednesday, April 24, and will be Confirmed and receive First Communion on Saturday, May 4 with her twin boys, Isaac and Noah.
The students of All Saints School will be offering Spiritual Prayer Bouquets, by praying for you or another individuals. To request a Spiritual Prayer Bouquet, email the following information to Melissa Doubek (mdoubek@alpenaallsaints.org). A class of students will send a card with the number of prayers said. You may request a Spiritual Bouquet for you or another person.
