During these final days of Advent we not only prepare our hearts for the coming of Christmas, but also prepare our homes with Christmas decorations and baking as well as plans on how we will celebrate Christmas. A major Christmas tradition is that of the Christmas Tree.
The Christian tradition of the Christmas Tree was started in 723 in Germany. It wasn’t until 1846 when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were sketched in the London News with their children standing around a Christmas Tree that the tradition of the Christmas tree became popular in Britain and the American East Coast.
Today: As you light your Christmas tree this evening, contemplate the coming of Christmas and Christ’s birth. Reflect on the words
“And the Word was made flesh
and dwelt among us.”
