Sorry I didn't get a note out last week! I had all intentions of doing it over the weekend...but the weekend got away from me! So, I'll combine the 2 into 1 for your reading convenience.
Conferences-- THANK YOU for coming in for conferences! I loved seeing how each child has grown since the beginning of the year and I loved hearing your stories about your child also! Thank you for sharing your sweet blessings with me!
Preschool Happenings--Well, we've learned about leaves and how the wind blows them around. We have had some fall fun in the leaves & really enjoyed the fall weather! We read the book "Leaf Man" by Lois Elhert and we even made our own leaf pictures! The kids had to figure out what they wanted to make, cut out the right amount of leaves in the colors they wanted and then label it. They all turned out so amazing!
We are sending home all things pumpkins and talking about Thanksgiving and turkeys this week and next. We are learning a turkey fingerplay! Maybe the kids will share it with you! We are also working with a couple of new to us songs by Laurie Berkner. The first one is The Elevator Song. In this song, we wait for the elevator on each floor and when the door opens, there is a different animal. We have 5 floors to build on and remember what each animal does! It's a great song to teach ordinal numbers and the kids LOVE IT! (Hint: We might be doing this one for graduation!) The other one is a song called The Silly Brushing Song. It's a great way to help the children brush their teeth for 2 minutes. Check these songs out on You Tube!
We also read a book called "My Heart Fills With Happiness". This book talks about when our heart feels happy. I'm using it as a way to transition into being thankful! We then began to fill our paper heart with things that make us happy. It is on the wall as you come in the door! We will be checking back in every day with the heart in hopes to fill it up through the month of November! We want to continue this in December, I think we will try to fill our Christmas Tree with things that we are thankful for or that make our hearts happy!
SNACK--Thank you to Danielle's family for snack last week and Alex's family for snack this week. The kids enjoyed making their own PB & J last week. This week, the highlight was cheese sticks and PB crackers! We are always so thankful for our food!
Next week, Misty and her family will provide snack!
STAR OF THE WEEK--Last week's Star of the Week was Noah! He wants loved showing his pictures of his family and friends to us. Noah loves the color red and likes to eat chicken and pancakes! (He assured us that he didn't chicken flavored pancakes!) This week, Christian was our Star of the Week. Christian's favorite animal is a tarantula! EEK! Next week, Shepherd is our Star of the Week and he is EXCITED!!!
READING TREE--Don't forget to keep sending in your fall leaves for our reading tree! It is filling up fast! If you need more, we have them and would love to share! We will be doing this through the end of November!
EXCITING NEWS--The Take Home Library is new this year and it's going well! When I spoke to the School Board about all of the literacy programs that we are using in 4-Year Old Preschool, it was suggested the we apply for a grant from the St. Vincent's Fund. So, I did with the help of Katie Mitchell, school board member and the Grant Wood Early Childhood Literacy Team. Well, we asked for $250.00 and we received $500 for dual language books! This is such wonderful news. I am elated that we are going to be able to get even more books into homes! So, after the first of the year sometime, we should have some new, dual language books so that all can participate in reading with their child.
