Do you pray for the dying?
Praying for the dying is essential to the message of Divine Mercy given to St. Faustina by our Lord Jesus and detailed in the Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, Divine Mercy in My Soul.
It obtains trust in God’s mercy for the dying person. Jesus told St. Faustina:
At the hour of their death, I defend as My own glory every soul that will say this chaplet; or when others say it for a dying person, the pardon is the same. When this chaplet is said by the bedside of a dying person, God’s anger is placated, unfathomable mercy envelops the soul, and the very depths of My tender mercy are moved for the sake of the sorrowful Passion of My Son (811); and
My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you…When they say this chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the merciful Savior (1541).
These are a couple of the most powerful promises in all of St. Faustina’s Diary. No matter who the dying person in question may be, Jesus promises to stand between God and them as the merciful Savior, and God promises to defend them as His own glory, if one simply prays the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for them.
