Just a quick note to say THANKS for your flexibility today. Today was certainly a unique situation and St. Matthew itself is in an interesting position as it does not operate on the same elementary schedule as many in the area.
A couple of notes to help ensure we are on the same page regarding weather situations.
We follow the CR schools delays and cancellations. Today was a difficult one as many of us were here and ready to go by the time we got the call of the delay. We honored this delay for those who had not yet traveled in but also felt it was important to provide for those who were in attendance. This was then complicated by a cancellation to follow.
As a Xavier Catholic School community we operate together regarding our decision making. After we received word of the delay, we as XCS administrators met to discuss our plan. While each school operates under very different circumstances and with different schedules, we ensure that the safety of students is our primary goal.
The unfortunate part about today's events is that all of us were unaware of the potential for bad weather, coupled with timing for the delay/cancellation. We were the only elementary to have more than a handful of students present.
Please know that as soon as we receive any information from Cedar Rapids District offices regarding delays or cancellations, we will forward that to you immediately in the form of a text and email.
I apologize for the numerous communications today but more importantly, I thank you for your flexibility. It was certainly not as we would have hoped and truthfully, we were ready to hunker down and get to work. An extra special thanks to your sons/daughters, they were amazing through all the uncertainty. Stay safe as you venture out!
