Penetrated the Impenetrable
Some men brought on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed; they were trying to bring him in and set him in his [Jesus’] presence. But not finding a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on the stretcher through the tiles into the middle in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, he said, "As for you, your sins are forgiven." (Luke 5:18-20)
People came to Jesus for many reasons. Some came by their own free will and others were brought to Jesus because of their inability to do so. Each of us has, by the grace of God, the opportunity to bring others to Christ. How often do we miss that chance? Despite the impenetrable crown, those men (the paralyzed’s friends I assumed) brought the paralyzed man to Jesus for healing. They indeed penetrated the impenetrable! He was healed both spiritually and physically. How many times did we make up our excuses for not going to church or bring others to Christ? Just to name a few, if you want to hear them: “The ‘music’ isn't my style.” “I don't like the teaching-The homily is either too long-winded, or uses an odd translation; they talk about money, divorce, and politics too much; or, they tell a lot of stories…” “I used to think of God as an old man with a big white beard who sits up in the sky. Obviously, now I realize this is ridiculous. Christianity is just plain fantasy.” “I’m too busy!” “My kids don’t like going.” “The main point of Christianity is to do good and be a good person. I can do that without all of this religion stuff.” Here is the most recent one: “Individuals in the Church have made plenty of mistakes and poor decisions, filled with cover-up. This Church is full of sinners, and I want no part of it.” So, what’s your excuse lately? What actions can you take in order to have vigorous faith in God today? The truth is God invites us to join Him to bring glad tidings to the lowly, the sick, the broken hearted. Don’t hesitate! When you open your heart to Him, He will turn you into His instrument before you know it. Just have faith and invite others to do likewise.
We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
Hail Mary full of grace…
