Well, the first week of having fish has been a success! They are alive and well and swimming all over! The kids love to sit and watch them go in and out of the castle. We have started trying to record what the fish are doing. Next week, we will be writing a story about Goldie and Bubbly! We are also adding 2 new helpers next week. One will be a veterinarian who will feed the fish and help take care of them! The other is a Kid Captain! At this age, we are really working on a lot of social skills. While we will always help a child, we want to encourage the children to start helping each other and then, if they still need help, we will step in!
We have been working on listening for initial sounds of words. The kids are really doing well! It is common for children to give the letter name instead of letter sound. We have been really working on giving the letter sound when I ask, “What sound do you hear at the beginning of fish?” They will respond with the /f/ sound instead of the letter name f.
CHANGE TO THE CALENDAR:I forget to put on the calendar that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 21. Please update your calendars!
READ IT AGAIN: This week was the story “Dog Breath, The Story of Halley Tosis”. The children worked on upper and lower case letters and started getting some of the jokes in the book. If you have not read this book, you should. It’s kind of funny!
SNACK: Ymbrace and her family were our snack helpers this week. The kids tried hummus today with their carrots! It is always great to try new foods and we need to introduce the children to them 15 to 20 times before they can truly say they don’t like them. Thank you for the yummy snacks! Next week, Aden and his family are the snack helpers!
STAR OF THE WEEK: Misty was our star of the week this week! She wants to be a singer when she grows up! I can’t wait to say, “I knew her when she was 4!”Next week, Ymbrace will be our Star of the Week
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: This week we were able to celebrate 2 birthdays!Misty’s ½ birthday was Wednesday, January 9th! We enjoyed some yummy cupcakes!!! We also celebrated Ymbrace’s 5th birthday! She will turn 5 on Sunday, January 13.Ymbrace brought a chocolate and vanilla cake to share with us!
