Dear EDGE Family,
This week at Edge, Father Dan spoke, and we learned more about different items and vestments that are used throughout the Mass and what they symbolize. We played Mass jeopardy and heard a talk in the Sanctuary that dove even deeper into the Mass with emphasis on the Eucharist and the Real Presence. We broke into small groups to reflect on our experiences receiving the Eucharist and continued to break down the different parts of the Mass, what they are, and what they mean. Then we came together to pray over our eighth graders, since they will now have the opportunity to attend Life Teen! We will miss you, eighth graders, but Life Teen is so excited to have you for the final EDGE night, April 28th. And we will welcome fifth graders (incoming sixth) at EDGE! Have a blessed Holy Week, and a Happy Easter to all of you, our amazing youth ministry families!
Main Ideas:- The Eucharist strengthens our union with Christ and gives life to our soul the same way that food and water gives life to our bodies.
- The Eucharist separates us from sin and helps us to not commit sin in the future.
- The Eucharist unites us all as one Body of Christ as we work out and anticipate our salvation and entrance to eternal glory.
Catechism Reference: “It was above all on ‘the first day of the week,’ Sunday, the day of Jesus’ resurrection, that the Christians met ‘to break bread.’ From that time on down to our own day the celebration of the Eucharist has been continued so that today we encounter it everywhere in the Church with the same fundamental structure. It remains the center of the Church’s life.” (CCC 1343)
Scripture Reference: “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.” (John 6:56)
Family Reflection Questions:- What is one thing you learned about Mass that you did not know before?
- What stood out to you the most from the homily?
- What can we do as a family to make Mass the high point of our week? (always go to Mass as a family, do not schedule anything during Mass on Sundays, have a treat after Mass together as a family, etc.)
