A Book Giveaway to Remember
In the late 90’s, I was in northeast India traveling through unreached cities and villages located near the Ganges River where less than 1% of the population were Christian. Many people in that region had never even heard about Christ! As we proclaimed the Gospel, we distributed books entitled Jesus Died for You in the Hindi language. I tossed a book into the lap of a Hindu Brahmin priest as he sat deep in meditation. He immediately began reading it! We threw books out the car windows as we drove slowly through the crowds. Masses of curious Hindus raced for the books, crowding in to catch glimpses of the words on the pages. I will never forget their spiritual hunger! Many precious souls heard the Gospel for the first time and came to Christ as a result. Seeing their hunger satisfied created an even deeper hunger for more of Jesus in each of the believers involved in the mission—this Jesus who through the love of a few Christ followers and the printed word had transformed lives in front of our very eyes. In that moment, we felt fully alive! We had found our purpose in giving Truth to someone else.
Here at St. Francis we receive the Gospel and enjoy the Sacraments on a daily basis. We are “stuffed” with Truth at every turn. It is easy to forget what hunger feels like. Outside these walls, however, there are souls who have not heard of this grace. They are skeptical, analytical, seeking answers in the wrong places.
During the upcoming Lenten season, we have an opportunity to shift our focus from filling our spiritual bellies to satisfying the hunger of someone else. Our gift to you is a book entitled The Case for Jesus that will help you reach someone else with Truth. Here are some tips on reading it with purpose:
1. READ with the goal of learning to better evangelize skeptics.
2. PRAY as you read, asking the Holy Spirit to lead you to someone who needs Christ.
3. GIVE your book to a non-Christian and discuss its content with them.
I pray you are empowered to present the case for Jesus in a world that continues to fall further away from Him. Remember, this book isn’t for you. It’s for them.
God bless you,
Anthony Feola
