Today is known as Good Wednesday, Spy Wednesday, and Holy and Great Wednesday. Spy Wednesday comes from the tradition that this is the day the Pharisees spied on Christ and sought to have him arrested. The names Good Wednesday and Holy and Great Wednesday comes from the tradition of Catholic and Orthodox Christians going to confession -- or Holy Unction for Orthodox Christians -- to prepare for Easter.
LENTEN CHALLENGE OF THE DAY:
Prepare your soul for the coming of Easter, either through Confession
or Holy Unction, or through asking forgiveness for your sins.
