Week number 2 of getting back into our routines! We have had a busy week and continue to work on our construction project. The kids are interested in making their own class house. Thank you for the paper towel rolls! Continue to bring them in as I think we are going to need a lot of them!We have made it through the alphabet 2 times, learning it in various ways. This time, we will be working on the alphabet in alphabetical order. There are many theories about how children should learn the alphabet…in alphabetical order, upper case first, doing letter of the week or day. I believe that these all have merit in some way. I also believe that getting the letters in front of the children is the biggest way to help them learn. Kids need the experiences. Children learn in different ways so it is always my goal to help each child be exposed to the concept we are teaching in various ways. This goes for all concepts, not just academic. Some kids can be told to use gentle hands and just know that is what they are to do. Some kids need role playing, peer interaction or consequences (positive or negative) to help learn the lesson. Keep exposing your children to meaningful experiences and they will grow.
READ IT AGAIN: This week we read “A Color of His Own” by Leo Lionni. It’s about a chameleon that changes colors when he moves. It’s a great review of color recognition and finding friendship for the kids. We even made our own class book called, “My Favorite Chameleon”. The kids drew their favorite color of chameleon and we encouraged them to write the words on the paper. Each child is in a different place as far as writing and letter sound knowledge so each page is unique. Make sure to check our class books out at conferences next week!
SNACK: Addison and family were our snack helpers this week! The kids just LOVE gold fish crackers! They counted them, compared how many they had with their neighbor and then enjoyed eating them with the fresh strawberries! Next week, Harper and family are our snack helpers!
STAR OF THE WEEK: This week, Paxton was our Star of the Week! Paxton beamed as he shared his poster with us and told us all about his family! You can tell that he loves spending family time together! Paxton’s favorite colors are pink, blue & purple! Next week Laken is our Star of the Week.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT: Thank you to everyone that was able to make it to Family Fun Night! What a great turn out we had! I keep hearing that making play dough in our room was the best activity! I hope you all enjoyed a fun night with family! The play dough recipe is simple and I will make sure that next week when we make it in class we send home the recipe!
CONFERENCES: Conferences will be Thursday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 12. If you have not filled out and returned your purple sheet, check your child’s bag. Times are filling up fast!
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!! We won the penny wars! Thank you to everyone who contributed to the penny wars. You helped raise $863 for Camp Reece! Our class raised almost $300.00. (I can’t remember the exact total so I will round it up!) It’s amazing how something like a few pennies (or quarters) can help such a great organization. We will be celebrating by having a pizza party on Friday, March 14th. We will be making our own pizzas and enjoying lunch in our classroom that day! Watch for more details, as we get closer!!! If you would like to help that day with either pizza making or lunch, that would be stupendous! Just let me know! And again, GREAT WORK on helping such a worthy cause!
HELP: I have had a donation of one box of wipes. THANK YOU! However, we could use more. We can get very messy and this saves us from running to the bathroom all of the time. We also use these after snack to wipe our hands and face!
