Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of our season of Lent. During this time, we intentionally focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving as spiritual exercises to help us prepare for the celebration of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. What one thing can you fast from this Lent to bring you closer to Christ?
As we think of fasting here are a few thoughts:
(adapted from a Lenten Prayer by William Arthur Ward)
Fast from fear;Feast on faith. Fast from despair;Feast on hope. Fast from depressing news; Feast on prayer. Fast from discontent; Feast on gratitude. Fast from anger and worry; Feast on patience. Fast from negative thinking;Feast on positive thinking. Fast from bitterness; Feast on love and forgiveness. Fast from words that wound; Feast on words that heal. Fast from gravity; Feast on joy and humor.
If you haven't already attended Mass this morning, I invite you to join us in the Cathedral at one of the following times:
During Lent, we reflect on Jesus' time in the desert. Join us this Monday, March 11 & Tuesday, March 12 at 7 PM in the Cathedral to learn the qualities of Jesus that give us the example we need to survive the challenges we face and the deserts of our lives.
