Lord, do not deal with us according to our sins.
One of the most devastating stumble blocks on the way to holiness is to let the memory of our sins weigh us down. We have a difficult time forgiving ourselves. We do know the theology that God loves all the things created in this world, but we doubt how much that love covers. It is a serious temptation to doubt the power of God’s love.
But just as the doctor prescribes various medicines and pills to be taken in the morning and evenings and at meals, so too does the Good Shepherd prescribe a regular pattern of prayer in our lives. Each occasion is a blessing.
So we rise and thank God for the new day and new opportunities. We appreciate the wholesome effects of the meals given to us for health and energy. We remember in the twilight of evening that everything did not go well during the day, but we are so happy that somethings did work out well. For these we must say “Thanks!”
