The
Schola Cantorum of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond (the cathedral's resident professional choir) presents a program of exquisite motets by two famed Leipzig composers.
Separated by some 125 years, Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn are paired in this program of sacred, Lenten music, including Bach's beautifully haunting
Jesu, Meine Freude (BWV 227) and Mendelssohn's Aus Tiefer Not, Ave Maria, Mitten Wir im Leben Sind, and Psalms 22 and 100.
Cathedral Director of Music Daniel Sañez conducts, with Ryan Tibbetts on continuo organ and Benjamin Wyatt on baroque cello.
This concert is made possible through the generosity of the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation.
