Last Sunday, the Homily was about rooting out Greed in our lives and 5 ways to develop the virtue of generosity.
(Greed: takes 2 forms:
a.) insatiable desire for &/or accumulating wealth or
b.) hoarding or being stingy w/ what I have ~ being selfish.)
How are you doing so far this week w/ generosity? The 5 ways we talked about were...
1. Be "God-Like" ~ God is loving, merciful, forgiving. Who in my life do I need to be loving, merciful or forgiving toward?
2. Ask yourself, "Am I tithing?" Literally, do I give 10% back to God. Tithing is rooted in the Bible.
3. Look around you this week and see if there is someone in need. Invite someone out for coffee, to lunch or dinner, or just pick up the "tab" for someone if & when you are out to dinner.
4. The money you save from whatever it is you gave up for Lent (coffee, pop, snacks, chocolate, movies,... ear mark for the Church or some other charity.
5. Next time you go shopping buy some extra canned goods / no perishable items (fruits, vegetables, peanut butter...) and donate it to the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry. They have a pick up in our St. Joseph Chapel...
As St. Katherine Drexel said, nothing happens by chance so be that person who makes things happen.
This Saturday is our Lenten Eucharistic Day of Reflection w/ Fr. Brian Doerr beginning w/ Mass at 8:00 am. Please bring a friend and join us...
