Meet Joyce Zimmerman and Paul and Polly Harsh!
Joyce Zimmerman is a dedicated member of St. Francis de Sales St. Vincent de Paul Conference and is currently a spiritual leader for the SVdP conference. Joyce has been on the home visit team; dispatcher and home visitor herself for a great number of years. She has a special passion for those in need in the Newark community and does an excellent job of listening and praying with the poor. Joyce has served on the altar for Mass for many years and is a great example for the new altar servers to follow. Previously she was a very active member who helped with the training of new RICA members. She has completed the Alpha program and has been asked to be a facilitator. Joyce is a great cook and a great organizer. She has been the lead person to organize, setup and provide refreshments for all the St. Vincent de Paul training sessions, the SVdP Ozanam training sessions and the reception/celebrations which SVdP had for long-time Vincentians, the Hammond family. Joyce is the type of person that you can sit down with a cup of coffee and feel like you have someone who will listen to you and will help you.
When Paul Harsh and his wife Polly went through RCIA St. at Francis, converted to Catholicism and joined the parish he took Christ’s words “feed my sheep” to heart. Quickly, he joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Francis and teamed with other Society members including, his wife Polly, in visiting those in need around the Newark area. He is great at listening to the needs of those he visits and through prayer, advice and financial support help to give them love, hope and dignity. Paul also assists the Treasurer of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Francis write checks in support of the many home visits the SVdP home visit teams make each month. Paul also enjoys Christian music and particularly singing. He uses his voice as an instrument of Christ’s message by singing in the St. Francis choir.
How is the Holy Spirit inspiring you to serve others through your parish?
