Dear friends in Christ,
This, That & the Other … What a weekend it is shaping up to be at Christ the Redeemer! Most significantly, we continue to
celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Easter continues for 50 glorious days so let us celebrate with hearts and minds renewed in the Risen Christ. … It’s also our
34th annual Spring Festival weekend. We’re in full-on countdown mode for the Festival right now so let’s take a look at all that is on tap this weekend.
… First, a word on the 2nd Sunday of Easter: it’s also known as
Divine Mercy Sunday, a day dedicated to the Divine Mercy devotion that focuses on the mercy of God the Father through His Son, Jesus. Given that our campus will busy with the festival, we are partnering with our good friends at
St. Edith Stein Catholic Church in Katy to commemorate the day this year. We are invited to join them at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday for the recitation of the Divine Mercy chaplet at their parish at 3311 N. Fry Road. All are invited to join in thanksgiving for the gift of the Divine Mercy to the Church.
… In advance of the Spring Festival, there is
much work to be done today, Friday and Saturday here at CtR. Come lend us a hand! … Our Community Center is buzzing with preparation for the Flea Market. There’s still time today to bring items (and stay to help us sort and price them as well).
Friday is a big day of preparation all over the campus. Just show up at any time and I guarantee you we will find a place for you. One area I know would welcome your help is in the Community Center kitchen for the peeling of potatoes and other veggies. It’s BYOP – bring your own peeler!
… Beginning Saturday morning you can bring your donations of flowers and greenery for the plant shop, as well as cakes, cookies and goodies for the Sweet Shop bake sale. A special note to all you bakers: we always run short on cakes for the cakewalk booth. If you can bake an extra sheetcake or two (doesn’t have to be fancy, just tasty!) please bring them for us to give away. Or make a batch of cookies or treats for the Sweet Shop.
… We have plenty of opportunities to
practice Stewardship by giving of your time and talent throughout the weekend. See the links below
to volunteer for a shift or two serving the
BBQ lunch on Sunday, to help with the
Auction on Sunday afternoon, or to monitor a booth or
rides either Saturday or Sunday. … Everything with the Spring Festival is parishioner-run. We’re all volunteers here, and we need your time to help make it a great success. If we don’t have the volunteers, we’ll be forced to shutter some of the experiences, and no one wants to do that. Can you offer an hour two of your time? It’s a great way to give back to the community and a whole of fun in the process!
… The weather this weekend is going to be just about perfect, so
join us beginning Saturday after the 5 p.m. Mass with some of the food court open, beer and wine booths, flea market, and a few of the rides. We always have a great band with a packed dance floor so come enjoy a great night. It’s a wonderful evening and sets the stage nicely for all the family fun the next day. … On Sunday we get going with the barbecue at 11 a.m. and then everything – all the rides, games, food booths, flea market, plant booth and everything else – is up and running by 12 noon. … The
silent auction will be open in the early afternoon – there are some great (and I mean, great!) looking baskets of items available this year. Come place your bids. … The
live auction will follow under the big tent beginning at 3 p.m. and that’s always a highlight of the weekend. You won’t be believe some of the stunning items up for bid this year! … The
Grand Prize drawing for the new car (buy your raffle tickets!) closes the festival at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
… Don’t forget the
free shuttle service both Saturday night and all day Sunday. The shuttle will run round-trip, from Milsap Elementary School (about 1/4 mile north of the parish on Huffmeister, just past Cypress-N. Houston Drive) on Saturday evening and again on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Also on Sunday we’ll have an extra shuttle running round-trip to Hunting Specialties, just off the corner of Huffmeister and Cypress-N. Houston. It will save you time and aggravation, as much of our front parking area is blocked. Trust me on this one – it’s the way to go. …
Remember there is no 5 p.m. Mass this Sunday! … We always need
help on Sunday evening immediately following the Grand Prize drawing at 7 p.m. That’s when we tear down the booths and stack the tables and chairs for pickup on Monday. If we have a good number of you pitch in, you'll be amazed at how fast we can get everything back in order. … And if
you are retired or have Monday morning free, how about coming by at 9 a.m. to give Mike Havelka some help in getting everything put away? It’s the “forgotten day” of the festival and Mike would welcome some help in returning the items to the storage shed. Thank you in advance for helping with the clean-up. It really means a lot.
… Throughout the weekend look for the
Spring Festival Core Committee in their “Staff” shirts and tell them thank you for their hard work. They are parishioners, just like you and me, who give selflessly so that we can enjoy a great weekend of family fun. My special thanks to our Festival chairpersons, Mike and Camille Havelka and all who make it possible. … For now let's pitch in to help us get ready and make plans to join us at some point over the weekend to support the parish. It's promises to be a fun time for all ages. … Lastly and most importantly,
God loves you! … See ya’ at Mass – and the Festival!
