Hello, Everyone!
Yes! We can help take care of our Earth.
This group was totally flabbergasted on Tuesday! Returning to our classroom after Reading Buddies they found trash strewn all over! What happened??
How could they fix this problem?
"Let's pick up this trash!"' was one suggestion.
That response led into sorting trash - and this group got to work sorting paper, cardboard, metal & plastic. - Looking at all the trash, the discussion came to the subject of "Reduce, Re-use, Recycle!"
What happens to metal after we dump it off at the recycle center?
What about all the other trash? The paper, cardboard, the plastic?
Did you know old paper scraps can be turned into play dough? Well! We did it!
The mixture of construction paper scraps, salt, flour, unsweetened jello & water has kept this class busy playing!
The sorted trash enabled us to create a trash monster! It was fun to hear a story about "Trash Monster" & how it motivated a little boy to help take care of trash at his house.
Our Trash Jar demonstrated:
What would it look & smell like in our world if all of us just threw trash anywhere?
Children took turns looking at changes happening in the jar...& almost everybody was brave enough to smell the jar.
Highlight of the week: Making a recycle snack! Did you know that pizza was invented as a creative way of using up left-overs? It did! Of course our pizza didn't have any left over foods on it - just cheese & sauce! No complains were heard.
Plans for this week & snack calendars for the rest of the month were sent home on Friday. The last day of preschool will be on May 21st!
Thank you so much for sending snacks last week!
Mrs. Mac & I are looking forward to more fun in learning with your child!
